Welcome to the English Department
One of the largest as well as most important academic departments at CCNY, the Department of English, which includes Comparative Literature, offers a wide variety of courses for its undergraduate and graduate degrees from medieval to modern.  Students may choose classes ranging from Melville, Shakespeare and Black Drama to the Political Novel, Imagining Queen Elizabeth, Caribbean Spirits-Colonial Ghosts and the Poetry of Jazz, Chaucer and Milton.  The Department's creative writing courses include fiction, poetry and drama for the beginner as well as those more advanced.  With a long and distinguished as well as forward-looking tradition, the Department boasts over 100 full and part-time faculty, including a number with international reputations.
