About Araceli Tinajero

Before joining the Foreign Languages Department at CCNY, Professor Tinajero taught Japanese language at the University of Wales in Great Britain; and Spanish and Spanish American Literature at Middlebury College and Yale University.

Publications

Professor Tinajero is the author of Orientalismo en el modernismo hispanoamericano (Purdue UP, 2004) and El lector de tabaquería: Historia de una tradición cubana (Madrid: Editorial Verbum, 2007). This book received Honorable Mention from Premio Casa de las Américas 2006.

Her latest articles and book chapters were published in The Latin American Fashion Reader (Oxford: Berg, 2005), Cuba: un siglo de literature (1902-2002) [Madrid: Colibrí, 2004], Review: Literature and Arts of the Americas (2006), Revista Iberoamericana (2006), Alternative Orientalisms in Latin America and Beyond (Cambridge Scholars Press, 2007), and Diplomacia y orientalismo. Fuentes modernistas (México: UNAM, 2007). Professor Tinajero’s El lector: A History of the Cigar Factory Reader (University of Texas Press) is forthcoming.
