Degree Requirements
Majors
Majors must take five history courses (15 credits) in one selected field of concentration. That field may be geographical (e.g. the United States, Europe, Asia), as listed in the catalogue, or students may design a thematic field in consultation with the undergraduate adviser.

Majors must also take six courses (18 credits) outside their area of concentration, for breadth.

The history department urges students to take no more than six credits of history at a time.

Total Credits for the major: 33 (with a GPA > 2 in the major, and overall)
Of those 33 credits, 20 must be completed on the CCNY campus.

Additional Requirements:

  • For current General Education requirements, see here.
  • History majors enrolled before Fall 2007 should review their General Education requirements with an adviser in the divisional office (Humanities) in NAC 5/224.

Requirements for Undergraduate Minors
A minor in history requires five history courses (15 credits) in any field.
