About Linda Villarosa

Linda Villarosa directs the journalism program at City College, teaches and is the faculty advisor to The Campus newspaper.

Formerly, she edited the health pages for the New York Times, where she redesigned and expanded health coverage for Science Times. Professor Villarosa was also the executive editor of Essence Magazine, where she wrote or edited a number of award-winning articles.

Professor Villarosa is the author or co-author of a number of books, including Body & Soul: The Black Women’s Guide to Physical Health and Emotional Well-Being, and Passing for Black, a novel published in 2008 and nominated for a Lambda Literary Award. She is a graduate in journalism of the University of Colorado and spent a year at Harvard University as a journalism fellow.

Professor Villarosa is currently contributing to a PBS documentary about AIDS in black America and writes frequently for theroot.com.
