MFA Program in Media Arts Production
Scholarships
 
There are numerous grants, scholarships and awards that are available to media arts students. The following list is comprised of monies available specifically to our MFA Students through our MFA in Media Arts Production program.  Please note that all scholarship/grant funds are subject to sponsorship availability, which can change year to year.  

➢    The Bert Saperstein Scholarships
Two $1,000 scholarships for outstanding, creative performance in the 1st year of MFA program.
Eligibility: Open to all 1st year students after completion of 1st semester.
Application & Deadline: There is no formal application. The MFA Committee selects the winners after review of first semester performance.

➢    Princess Grace Foundation-USA Scholarship
One $5,000+ scholarship for outstanding merit and creative performance in the 1st year of MFA program.
Eligibility: One 1st year student nominated after completion of 1st year by MFA Committee
Application & Deadline: May/June. The MFA Committee nominates 1 director who will prepare an application package for PGF-USA. Nominee will compete with students from other film schools for this award.  For more information, visit: http://www.pgfusa.com/

➢       The National Board of Review of Motion Pictures Grants
The National Board of Review of Motion Pictures Grants, a nonprofit organization that celebrates the distinctive voice of the individual artist, honoring excellence and supporting freedom of expression in film, offers $6,000 in student grants.
Eligibility: Second year MFA directing students to put toward completion and distribution of their thesis projects. 5 Finalists (fiction & documentary) are nominated by the MFA Committee. The NBR selects 1-3 winners nominated by MFA Committee.
Application & Deadline:  Early May (applications available in late April).

➢    New York Women in Film & Television Fellowship
One $2,000 Fellowship awarded to a female MFA student entering her thesis year.
Eligibility: Open to first year female writer/directors
Application & Deadline: Late May/Early June. The MFA Committee nominates 3 female directors who will prepare an application package for NYWIFT.  NYWIFT Board selects 1 winner.

➢    Joseph P. Vasquez Awards
Sponsored by New Line Cinema and named for the late City College alumnus and director, Joseph P. Vasquez (Hangin’ With the Homeboys). Awards range from
$300 - & 1,000 based on excellence in filmmaking.
Eligibility: Open to all second year MFA Students
Application & Deadline: There is no formal application. Winners are selected at Cityvisions, by the festival judges.

➢    David & Rose Dortort Awards
Made possible through the generosity of alumnus David Dortort, creator and executive producer of the televisions series, Bonanza. Awards range from  $300 - $1,000.
Eligibility: Open to all second year MFA Students
Application & Deadline: There is no formal application.  Winners are selected at Cityvisions, by the festival judges.

➢    Eastman Kodak Awards for Excellence in Cinematography
Two $1,000 product certificate (for film stock) awards made possible by Eastman Kodak.
Eligibility: Open to all second year MFA Cinematography students
