About Jonathan Pieslak
Pieslak’s music is performed and broadcast throughout the United States and internationally, entailing recent collaborations with the Plainfield Symphony Orchestra, North/South Consonance, Radio Resita (Resita, Romania), Ursula’s End, and the Oregon Bach Festival. His orchestra works are recorded by the Kiev Philharmonic, Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra and released on the ERM Media label. He has been recognized with awards and commissions from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, Jerome Foundation, American Composers Forum, American Music Center, National Federation of Music Clubs, MacDowell Colony, and others. As a scholar, Pieslak has written articles on critical theory, metal music, and music and the war in Iraq, which appear (or are forthcoming) in Music Theory Spectrum, Theory and Practice, Popular Music, and Journal of Musicological Research. He is currently writing a book, Sound Targets: Music and the Iraq War, exploring the relationship between music and American soldiers in Iraq ().
