B.F.A. Performance Program/Auditions
Auditions for entrance into the BFA Performance Program for the spring semester are held in mid-October. Auditions for the fall semester are held in early February (scholarship auditions) and March. For further details about the BFA performance program, contact Professor Scott Reeves at email@example.com. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE BEGUN THE ADMISSION PROCESS TO THE COLLEGE BEFORE YOU COME TO AUDITION. ADMISSION TO THE PROGRAM DOES NOT ADMIT YOU TO THE SCHOOL. THEY ARE TWO SEPARATE MATTERS.
To schedule an audition, please call the Music Department at (212) 650-5411 at least two weeks prior to the audition date. The Music Department is located in Shepard Hall at 138th St. & Convent Ave. in upper Manhattan. Report to the Music Office in Shepard 72 on the ground floor upon your arrival.

If you are unable to attend the auditions because you live in another state or country, please send a tape or CD of a live performance at least two weeks prior to the audition date. Taped auditions should be sent to:

The BFA Performance Program in music is intended for talented students who have serious ambitions in the field of performance and are at a fairly advanced level. The BA program in music (which does not require an audition) is better suited to students at an intermediate performance level, or those who are preparing for graduate school, a career in teaching, music composition, music criticism, music history, music publishing, and related fields. Also, students interested in the BFA program in music technology (Sonic Arts) are NOT expected to audition at this time. Please check their website for details.
In preparing for the audition, we suggest that you choose two brief, contrasting selections that best demonstrate your technique and musicianship. These selections should be chosen from the standard classical or jazz repertoire, depending on your area of emphasis. You should also bring copies of the music to the audition to give to the accompanists that will be provided for you. In addition, jazz instrumentalists should be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of seventh chords. Singers should be able to read musical notation comfortably. In addition to hearing you perform, we will also administer a brief written placement exam covering musical rudiments (unless you are already enrolled in music theory courses at CCNY). If you have no knowledge of notation and basic music theory (scales, intervals, and triads) you should enter the College as a BA student and audition for the BFA program after taking basic theory and musicianship courses (MUS 13100 and 16100).
Please understand that the BFA audition is only one part of the application process for admission to CCNY. Students must first go through the application procedure with the Admissions Office before they can enroll in this program. Please adhere to their deadline dates in order to assure acceptance to the College. Do not send materials such as transcripts, applications, visa information or TOEFL scores to the music department. These items should be sent directly to the Admissions Office.
