Sonic Arts Student decided on career at 13 BrianTrent Brian Trent grew up in Syracuse, New York and began playing guitar at the age of 13 and as he says himself he has been obsessed with music ever since. He always thought it would be merely a hobby until he attended the University of Buffalo and attended music theory classes. It was then he realized that a music career was what he wanted.
Fortuitously, around this time, he was introduced to the Sonic Arts Program at City College by his brother and after researching other recording arts programs around the country, the one at CCNY was very attractive because it had a full 4 year degree with training in music theory and musicianship as well as covering technical issues. He also liked the idea of attending a full university with exposure to a cross section of disciplines and backgrounds as opposed to a strictly music based school. Classes were beginning the week he arrived in the Fall of 2004 so he didn't have time to adjust to the New York life style before full immersion in classes. But he has caught up now! Brian feels that enrolling in the Program is one of the best decisions he has ever made.
He thoroughly enjoys the Program, noting in particular the amount of studio time that students receive as well as the guidance and knowledge of the dedicated instructors.
In 2007, Brian was awarded the Jerome Ash scholarship which is awarded to two outstanding students in the Sonic Arts Program each year.
Brian would like to work professionally as a recording/performing artist and also has deep interest in recording, producing and mixing other artists' music with the goal of becoming a mastering engineer.
Brian would also like to hear his music played live so has plans to form his own band. He wants to collaborate with established and emerging artists and if you want to join him check Brian's MySpace page that features music he has composed during his time at City College. He created the name Polyester Staple Litigation to showcase his work. It is a striking and original name reflecting Brian's own inventiveness and originality.
