About Marthe Gold, M.D., M.P.H.
Marthe Gold joined the Sophie Davis faculty in 1997 as the Logan Professor and Chair of the Department of Community Health and Social Medicine.

A family physician, her earlier career was in clinical practice both in rural and urban physician shortage areas. Prior to joining the faculty, she served as Senior Policy Adviser in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services where her focus was on the economics and financing of clinical preventive services and public health. She was a member of the 1993 White House Task Force on Health care reform where she contributed to benefit design and protections for under served populations. Her recent research has focused on outcome measurement for medical care and public health and citizen deliberation as it applies to health policy. A member of the Institute of Medicine, she has contributed to a number of its reports. She currently chairs its Committee on Strategies to Improve Public Health Practice which is charged with issuing three report focusing respectively on measurement, law and policy, and financing.

She was elected to membership in the Institute of Medicine in 2006.
