Angie Hernandez is a 2008 Sophie and Leonard Davis Scholarship Winner

Ms. Hernandez, Sophie Davis Class of 2010, is a 2008 Sophie and Leonard Davis Scholarship Winner. She entered Sophie Davis as a Lois Pope LIFE Unsung Hero Scholarship recipient. She was also a Gates Millennium Scholar; having won the highly prestigious national scholarship while at Susan E. Wagner High School on Staten Island where she graduated from in 2005.

An excellent student, Ms. Hernandez has been named to the Dean’s List in multiple semesters. She was also chosen to be one of six teaching assistants for the Health, Medicine and Society sequence of courses that occur in the second year of the program.

On Staten Island, Ms. Hernandez, the daughter of Colombian immigrants, has given back to the community in many ways. She has served on the Jewish Heritage Museum’s Education Committee and volunteered at Staten Island University Hospital in the Pediatrics Department.

She has also volunteered at a primary care clinic on Staten Island, where she has been able to work closely with a primary care physician in a busy practice. Ms. Hernandez is a member of the Christian Medical Association and has served the group as secretary.

She will transfer to New York University School of Medicine in 2010
