Stanton Shek is a 2008 Sophie and Leonard Davis Scholarship Winner
Stanton Shek, Sophie Davis Class of 2010, is a winner of a 2008 Sophie and Leonard Davis Scholarship. A 2005 alumnus of Staten Island Technical High School where he was a top student, he continues to excel at City College.
Mr. Shek, born of Chinese immigrant parents, has been named to the Dean’s List in multiple semesters. He’s served as a peer tutor in physics, biology and chemistry through the Learning Resource Center.
He’s also been a volunteer mentor to incoming students and served as a student interviewer for the Admissions Committee. Among the student clubs Mr. Shek is affiliated with are the Biomed Asian Health Coalition and AMISTAD, a club that raises funds for children’s charities.
In the American Medical Student Association he has served as technology coordinator. Mr. Shek also belongs to Physicians for a National Healthcare Program and was a driving force in the trip to Toronto last year to study the Canadian healthcare system.
In the community, Mr. Shek is a member of the Chinese American Medical Society and presented an abstract at their annual meeting on the research he conducted as part of his Fieldwork in Community Medicine requirements.
He will transfer to Dartmouth Medical School in 2010.
