Giovanni Milione selected as finalist in the Optical Society of America's 2011 Emil Wolf Outstanding Student Paper competition for his paper titled, "Vector Beam Representation on a Higher Order Poincare Sphere and Higher Order Stokes Parameter Measurement through Optical Angular Momentum Decomposition" at the OSA Frontiers in Optics annual conference.  Mr. Milione will present his paper during the OSA FiO conference in October, 2011 when winners will be selected.  For more information, click here.

 

SPIE award to Giovanni Milione

The International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE) awarded a 2011 scholarship to Giovanni Milione for his potential contributions to the field of optics.  Mr. Milione is an Iraq War veteran who is currently beginning the Ph.D. program in Physics.  Last year, as a master's student at CCNY he was a student in the laboratory of Dr. Robert Alfano, Distinguished Professor of Science and Engineering.

 

Jeff Secor, a Ph.D. student of Distinguished Professsor Robert Alfano, has submitted to Physical Review Letters a paper in joint authorship with Prof. Alfano and Thandar Myint, "Coherence of the Fluorescence from Excitons in Higher Plant Photosynthesis."  For the paper, click here.

DOCTORAL COURSES OPEN TO MASTER’S STUDENTS
The City College is the major participant in the University Ph.D. program in Physics. A set of graduate courses is offered at City College, as well as extensive research facilities for experimental and theoretical research. Both master’s and undergraduate students often take part in these research efforts.

Some of the courses offered regularly on the advanced level include:
