Post-Baccalaureate Eligibility Requirements

Acceptance to the program is two-fold: post-baccalaureate students must be accepted by The City University of New York/CCNY as well as the Program in Premedical Studies. As a result, it is quite possible for a student to be accepted by CUNY/CCNY and not the Program in Premedical Studies.

Prospective post-baccalaureate students are encouraged to enroll as undergraduate, second degree students. They must complete and submit the CUNY Transfer Admission Application, with all the requisite admissions criteria and deadlines.

Please also note that due to unprecedented enrollment for the 2009-10 and 2010-11 academic years, we can no longer guarantee a seat in a science course for newly accepted post-baccalaureate students.

The Program in Premedical Studies at The City College of New York is a program for career changers.  If you are looking for a post-bac program to enhance your undergraduate grades, this may not be the program for you.

In addition, prospective students who are interested in applying as post-baccalaureate students to the Program in Premedical Studies must submit the following directly to the Program:

  • The Program in Premedical Studies Post-Baccalaureate Application.
  • Two letters of recommendation - Letters of recommendation can either be included with your application or sent separately to the Director of the program. Letters do not necessarily have to be from faculty; anyone who you feel can provide us with a recommendation as to why they feel you would make a good candidate for this program as well as for medical school would suffice, BUT THEY MUST BE PROFESSIONAL LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION - please, no letters from family members or personal friends!
  • A current cv/resume;
  • A personal statement. Students are asked to respond to the following question: “Please describe your professional goals. Include in this description a discussion of the factors and experiences which contributed to their formulation.”
  • an official transcript from the college/university you received your bachelor's degree, with the notion that you have been officially graduated with a final, cumulative GPA.

Please note that a minimum 2.8 cumulative undergraduate grade point average is required for admission to the program. Beginning Fall 2008, no post-baccalaureate student will receive a committee letter from the Director of the Premedical Studies Program who has earned fewer than 24 City College credits. All post-baccalaureate students must also maintain a 3.2 grade point average to remain in the program. All materials must be received by the Premedical Studies Office by the deadline dates that are as follows:

Fall Semester: August 1

Spring Semester: December 1

Summer Semester: May1

Tuition: Since City College is state-funded, our students pay a very low tuition. For current tuition rates, please visit the Admission Site for more information. Please call us at 212-650-6622 or e-mail us at premedical@sci.ccny.cuny.edu with any questions.
