Division of Social Sciences
Division of Social SciencesLearn to Lead

Social science majors study why individuals, groups, governments, institutions, tribes, classes, men, women, and children do what they do...and learn how to use this knowledge to achieve important, positive change.

Our courses stress active learning, both inside and outside the classroom.  Community and international field placements give students the chance to develop leadership skills and test out career options. Laboratory and applied research experience offer opportunities to hone key planning, critical reasoning and data analysis skills.

Join the Model United nations team, work and travel in Rwanda, Morocco, or El Salvador, intern in  Washington DC or right here in Harlem.  Social Science majors graduate with resumes that reflect both academic and real-world learning - the credentials that employers value most.  And they go on to become lawyers, diplomats, entrepreneurs, social workers and counselors, financial analysts, organizers, psychologists...the men and women who shape our societies and our world.
