"The United States & Iraq; Cassandra's Curse and Pandora's Box"
by the Honorable Barbara Bodine
Join us for this critical account of the early days of the occupation from the first coordinator for reconstruction in Baghdad.
Ambassador Bodine's experiences were graphically recounted in the award-winning documentary, “No End in Sight.” These experiences provide her with a unique perspective on the U.S. war in Iraq, particularly the policy implications for the U.S. in the Middle East.
She brings more than thirty years of experience in the U.S. Foreign Service, most of which was spend on the Arabian Peninsula. Her many posts include Ambassador to the Republic of Yemen (1997-2001), Deputy Chief of Mission to Kuwait during the first Gulf War, Deputy Principal Officer in Baghdad during the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s. She also held a number of assignments within the State Department, including Coordinator for Counterterrorism, Director of East African Affairs, and Senior Advisor for International Security Negotiations and Agreements in the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs.
