The MPIR allows a limited number of people who are not currently in the program to take classes as non-matriculated (also known as "non-degree") students. These slots are reserved for those who are planning to apply to the program in the following semester.

Those wishing to register for classes as a non-matriculated student must fill out an application in the MPIR office (6/293) and submit it to us along with their undergraduate transcripts. If accepted, you may register for up to two classes (six credits). Under no circumstances can a student take more than six credits as a non-degree student.

Please note: allowing you to take classes as a non-matriculated student does not guarantee that you will be accepted into the program.  You must still apply through the Graduate Admissions Office and the MPIR Admissions Committee will evaluate you based on your application file.

In order to be considered for non-degree status, you must:

1. Have an undergraduate degree with a minimum 3.0 grade point average (or its equivalent).
2. Agree to apply for admission into the program for the following semester.
3. Submit an application to the Program Administrator by the deadline printed on the homepage.

If you are accepted into the program, the credits you earn will be applied to your degree.  If you are denied admission, you may not take any further classes.
