The Masters Programs undefined

The City College of New York offers two two-year post-baccalaureate degrees for students seeking a firm grounding in general psychology or in counseling psychology.

The Masters program in General Psychology provides students who are interested in graduate study of psychology, but who may not have acquired a psychology background in college, graduate coursework covering a wide range of areas in the field. Courses are offered in the history of psychology, psychotherapy, psychopathology, developmental psychology, personality psychology, counseling psychology, health psychology, cognitive psychology, and neuropsychology. Training is given in statistics and research design, which can be used to complete an optional thesis. Graduates of the program have used the degree for job advancement or preparation for Ph.D. study in a specialized field.

The Masters program in Mental Health Counseling provides coursework, assessment training, and practicum experience in community-based techniques to treat and prevent psychological disorders. Courses focus on group, family, and couples counseling, diagnosis and treatment of substance abuse, multicultural counseling, and the reporting of child abuse. Students completing the program meet the education requirements for licensure as a mental health counselor in the State of New York, thus readying them for post-degree supervision and the National Clinical Mental Health Counselor (NCMHCE) Examination (http://www.op.nysed.gov/mhclic.htm).
