The Psych club
The Psychology Students Association (PSA), known as the “Psychology Club” is a student-run organization that encourages psychology majors as well as non-majors to broaden their horizons in the field of psychology and accentuate their participation within the City College community.
They meet weekly on Thursday's from 12:30 to 1:45 pm in NAC 7/219. Office hours are posted outside NAC 7/215. During these club hours they host both formal and informal seminars and invite lectures where speakers share some of their experiences as working psychologists and offer helpful hints about securing a future career in psychology. Their informal meetings are comprised of team-building exercises and various group related activities such as movie nights, bake sales, study-groups and freshman tutoring as well as field-trips to various psychological conventions. This provides a very good opportunity to learn leadership skills that will be helpful in future careers. It is also an opportunity to build a resume of experience that can represent your potential to future employers and to graduate school admissions committee members. We encourage all psychology students to join the PSA and become active in its leadership.
Executive Officers
The PSA maintains four officer positions – President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer – that are filled by election each semester. Each position entails specific duties: |
1. President
The President organizes and coordinates activities and planning for club events. He or she also delegates responsibilities to PSA members who volunteer to take on Psych Club tasks. The President also creates written agendas for members to follow along and participate.
2. Vice President
The Vice President performs the duties of the president in his or her absence. The Vice President plans regular functions for the Psychology Club meetings, reviews and recommends changes to the Psychology Club, and has responsibility for ordering and bringing food to public meetings.
3. Secretary
The Secretary records minutes of regular meetings and posts them on campus bulletin boards. The Secretary is responsible for storing and transporting club equipment if any are needed for the meetings or events.
4. Treasurer
The Treasurer is responsible for managing PSA funds. The Treasurer pays all club bills, keeps a record of all income received and disbursements, provides monthly financial statements at executive meetings, and reimburses other officers for club-related purchases.
All executive officers are expected to volunteer to lead and coordinate the major events sponsored by the PSA, attend all meetings and events, and assist in passing club leadership to next year's officers.
